  • Career Clinic: Redundancy - what next?

    By Mark Goddard | June 8, 2009

"Earlier this year I was made redundant from my role as a mid-level corporate lawyer at a US law firm, before which I spent a couple of years at a magic circle firm. I have good academics and my performance reviews have always been good, but I am finding it impossible to find a new role at any firm (both small West End firms and large UK firms). "I've thought about studying, but don't think that I can finance this. My attempts to find non-legal temporary admin roles have been futile so far. I have played out the scenarios and am torn between chasing what few roles there are out there in the hope that I can beat the competition, or starting again, which I really don't want to do as I did enjoy my job as a corporate lawyer.

  • Career Clinic: Has the crunch killed the corporate jobs market?

    By Mark Goddard | June 4, 2009

"I am a mid-level corporate/commercial lawyer at a good Australian firm, but I want to move to the UK, mainly for personal reasons but also to give my career a push along. All the news I read is that the bigger firms are in retrenchment mode, and not hiring, but has the entire corporate sector dried up?
