  • A&O capital markets chief Krischer voted in for second term

    Allen & Overy (A&O) has appointed international capital markets head David Krischer for a second term. The new four-year term will start on 1 November, with Krischer having headed the global group since 2006. Krischer is a US national and dual-qualified capital markets partner. He has been a partner with A&O since 1992, when he obtained a UK solicitors' licence to be able to join the partnership at the magic circle firm.

  • Litigation and dispute resolution: The new, new thing

    Richard Fields likes antitrust cases; so far he likes them to the tune of $79m (£50m). Since late 2007, when he helped establish and float Juridica Capital Management on AIM, London Stock Exchange's junior market - raising $180m (£115m) in the process - Fields has been combing the US litigation market for commercial suits for his fund to invest in. Over the last three years, New York-based Juridica has sunk almost half of that money into five antitrust cases. Ferreting out the right antitrust case - that is, one in which liability has already been admitted - is as close to a sure thing as you can get in litigation financing, he boasts. The risk on liability "is typically very low [in these cases], especially in the United States, where there have been criminal convictions or plea agreements with the US Department of Justice," adds Fields, a former Dickstein Shapiro partner.

  • Freshfields and A&O take headline roles on £1bn Betfair listing

    Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Allen & Overy (A&O) have won lead roles on the upcoming £1bn initial public offering (IPO) of online gambling company Betfair. Freshfields is advising Betfair with a team including M&A partners Martin Taylor and Tim Jones alongside senior associates Richard Blair and Doug Smith. A&O is advising the underwriters, which include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays Capital and Numis.

  • CC City partner duo quit for Sidley Austin and corporate finance client

    Two senior Clifford Chance (CC) partners are set to quit the firm's London office, with former Asia capital markets chief Stephen Roith and veteran real estate partner Iain Morpeth both leaving the firm. Roith, who stood unsuccessfully in the firm's London managing partner elections last year, is joining the London office of US firm Sidley Austin as co-head of capital markets, while Morpeth is joining Oppenheimer Investments as the corporate finance advisory firm's first global chief operating officer.

    White & Case and Dewey & LeBoeuf have advised on the issue of a $600m (£390m) eurobond by the National Bank of Egypt (NBE). Dewey & LeBoeuf advised NBE - Egypt's largest bank - with London partner Camille Abousleiman taking the lead role. White & Case advised the underwriters, including Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley, with a team led by London partner Stuart Matty.

  • CC recruits capital markets partner to advise on local law in Singapore

    Clifford Chance (CC) has bolstered its Singapore office with the hire of a capital markets partner from Wong Partnership. Raymond Tong will be the first capital markets lawyer practising Singapore law in the office following the approval of the firm's local licence last year. CC previously had a joint venture with Wong Partnership that ended when the firm received its own licence in May 2009.
