Allen & Overy overhauls governance with new management committee

Allen & Overy (A&O) has overhauled its governance structure and introduced a new executive committee.

The new management committee consists of 10 partners and four support directors and will meet for the first time next month. It will be co-chaired by senior partner Wim Dejonghe and managing partner Andrew Ballheimer.

In a statement, A&O said it would be responsible “for the development and implementation of the firm’s strategy and overall performance management”.

The firm has also introduced a client group with around 25 partners that will be chaired by Dejonghe. The group includes Ballheimer along with representatives from the firm’s sector groups. It will be structured around industry sectors and will be accountable for growth in those and for the development of client relationships.

The changes follow a period of consultation with the magic circle firm’s partnership and will also include enhanced internal reporting of practice group, sector and client information on global lines, according to A&O’s statement.

Support functions will also be run along global lines by 1 May next year, as part of the shake-up.

A&O managing partner Andrew Ballheimer said: “These are forward-looking changes that will allow us to use our global network even more effectively to deliver the services our clients want. They maintain the best collaborative strengths of our partnership while providing clear and accountable leadership.”

A&O senior partner Wim Dejonghe added: “We’ve already established a successful sector approach across our business and the client group will help us to take an even better view of client opportunities and investment priorities.”
