  • Linklaters partner to set up London base for CEE spin-off firm

    Linklaters' former head of capital markets, Nick Eastwell, has joined Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) firm Kinstellar as a senior consultant to set up a base in the City. Eastwell will work part-time for the CEE outfit, which was founded by a group of former Linklaters equity partners in November 2008 when the magic circle firm split from its offices in Budapest, Bratislava, Bucharest and Prague.

    Dewey & LeBoeuf has won a lead role advising insurance giant Aviva on its New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) listing. The world's fifth-largest insurance group, formerly known as Norwich Union in the UK, will make a secondary listing on the NYSE on 20 October and trade under the symbol AV.

  • Deutsche relations in spotlight after White & Case departures

    White & Case is working to renew its relationship in London with key client Deutsche Bank, after six partners with links to the client left the firm's banking and capital markets practice in 18 months. Since key relationship partner Mike Goetz quit for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in March 2008, a further five partners linked with Deutsche have left in London - putting the connection under strain. At its height the relationship was thought to be worth around $25m (£16m) a year to the firm's London office.

    Four international firms have landed roles on Metallurgical Corporation of China's (MCC's) initial public offering (IPO) - the second-largest listing of the year so far. The $5.2bn (£3.2bn) raised from the sale of shares on the Shanghai and Hong Kong exchanges makes MCC the second-largest IPO this year after the $7.4bn (£4.6bn) raised by China State Construction Engineering Corporation in July.

    Slaughter and May and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are among a number of international law firms to have picked up mandates on two major Hong Kong Stock Exchange listings which closed this week. China's largest pharmaceutical company, Sinopharm, raised HK$8.73bn (£688m), while Metallurgical Corp raised HK$18.2bn (£1.4bn) from the listings, which together dwarfed the initial public offering (IPO) activity to have taken place on the Hong Kong exchange so far this year.

  • CC names Amsterdam chief as new Moscow managing partner

    Clifford Chance (CC) has appointed Amsterdam head Jan ter Haar as its new Moscow managing partner, after Michael Cuthbert announced his plans to retire from the firm at the end of the year. Ter Haar has headed up CC's Amsterdam office since 2004, before which he led the local capital markets practice. The firm cited his strength in banking as a factor for his appointment as Moscow head, as it is a key focus for the office.

Capital markets partner Srinivas Parthasarathy is to leave A&O's Singapore office to take up a new position as a partner in Trilegal's Mumbai office at the start of October. He will head the capital markets group at the Indian firm.
