Nearly 400 leading African lawyers from private practice and in-house teams gathered in Johannesburg this September to celebrate the 2017 African Legal Awards.

Among the major winners were Baker McKenzie, which was named International Law Firm of the Year; Kenya-based Anjarwalla & Khanna, winner of African Law Firm of the Year (Large Practice); and South African legal insurance provider Law For All, which secured Legal Department of the Year (Large Team).

There was a standing ovation for Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng (pictured above left), who was presented with the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa Achievement Award.

The awards - hosted by Legal Week and the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa and supported by The American Lawyer - are in their fifth year, and took place at The Wanderers Club Johannesburg.
