Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) partner Gillian Fairfield and RPC’s Oliver Bray were named co-winners of the 2016 Legal Week Intelligence Best Client Partner award.

Fairfield joined HSF in 2004, and during the past 12 years has been involved in a steady stream of high profile deals involving public takeover bids, M&A and joint ventures.

In 2016 alone, she has played roles on two much-publicised mega-mergers: AB InBev’s $100bn acquisition of SABMiller and British American Tobacco’s $47bn bid for Reynolds American.

High standards of client service have always been at the heart of Fairfield’s work, with clients in Legal Week Intelligence’s Best Legal Advisers report praising her as “a brilliant lawyer and excellent relationship manager” and “more than a legal adviser – a trusted confidante and strategic support to the board”.

Meanwhile, Bray, in his 13-year tenure at RPC, has acted for a broad range of clients in the digital media/emerging technologies, advertising, marketing, data protection and consumer law fields.

Recently, he acted for Pizza Express on its agreement with Deliveroo and also on the development of its expanding product range. He also advised Google on the launch of various flagship products, and Coca-Cola European Partners on promotional and retail activities.

Clients offered glowing reviews of Bray’s work and service in Legal Week Intelligence’s Best Legal Advisers research. One client described him as a “great communicator, commercial and prepared to understand my business”, with another describing him as “responsive, commercially aware and very pleasant to deal with”.
