Former JJB chief Dave Whelan sells newly promoted club in latest Asia takeover of English team

Squire Patton Boggs and DLA Piper have scored roles on the acquisition of Wigan Athletic Football Club by Hong Kong’s International Entertainment Corporation (IEC).

Wigan, which since 1995 has been owned by former JJB Sports chief Dave Whelan and his family, recently sealed promotion to the Championship from League One. The club previously spent eight years in the Premier League between 2005 and 2013.
