When National Grid’s general counsel Helen Mahy began writing stories for her grandchildren about the adventures of her rescue dog, Basil, the stumpy-tailed black and white spaniel, little could she have imagined that five years later collections of those same stories would be sold in outlets such as Amazon and Waterstone’s as part of a broad charitable venture.
