King & Wood Mallesons promotes 20 in China

King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has promoted 20 lawyers to its China partnership.

The number of promotions is slightly down on last year, when the global firm promoted 24 lawyers to its China partnership.

This year its Shanghai office has seen the most partners join, with eight appointed.

Nine partners joined KWM’s China corporate and securities group, making it the most boosted practice area.

Eight of the new partners are women.

Wang Ling, China managing partner, said: “Recognising and promoting outstanding talent is part of our drive for sustainable and stable growth. We will continue to put clients at the heart of our business and develop our practice capacity to match the ever-changing needs of our clients.”

The firm has also announced two lateral partner appointments to its Hong Kong office.

Litigation and technology partner Peter Bullock has joined from Pinsent Masons’ Hong Kong office, while IPO partner Anthony Wan has joined from local law firm Llinks Law Offices.

This year’s China partner promotions have been backdated to 1 April.

The global firm is made up of three businesses that operate different financial years and different partner promotion rounds.

Its Europe and Middle East partner promotions were announced last month, with six joining the partnership.

Half of those appointments were to the London office.

The firm’s 2016 Australian partner promotions are yet to be announced. Last year, the firm’s Australian partner promotions came into effect on 1 July.
