Freshfields inks deal for Manchester global service centre office

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has announced it will be leasing space in One New Bailey in Manchester as the long term base for its global centre.

Freshfields has taken 80,000 sqft of space in the building on a ten year lease and staff will move in from early 2017.

The firm’s Manchester base first opened in July 2015 and is currently based in Arndale House.

The new city centre location near Spinningfields is double the size of the current office. It will accommodate legal services staff, as well as elements of HR, IT, marketing and business development, office management and document specialists.

Anup Kollenathu, Freshfields global centre director, said he was “extremely impressed” by the office space on offer in Manchester.

He said: “One New Bailey gives us both the high quality and attractive location we want for our staff.

“The developer has granted us valuable flexibility to adapt, up or down, the amount of space that we would occupy to reflect the evolving needs of our clients and our business.”

He added: “We are grateful to both Manchester and Salford City Councils for their help in setting up our current activities in Manchester and support in moving to the North West.”

Knight Frank advised Freshfields throughout the selection process for their long term Manchester premises.

Freshfields completed an initial consultation with those at the firm on the Manchester low cost legal services hub in April this year.

In May it hired Kollanethu, then Aviva Investors’ managing director of global shared services and transformation, to lead the new offering.

Freshfields confirmed the signing of the 40,000 sqft office space in Arndale house in the same month.
