Garrigues was named European Law Firm of the Year as it continues to sharpen its reputation as one of the leading practices in continental Europe.

The firm’s international expansion plans have already helped it grow global revenues by 3.1% in the last year to almost €350m, boosted by a strategic push in Latin America that has seen revenues in the region rise 81.4% to €18.6m. Last year the firm opened an office in Santiago de Chile, adding to its locations in Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Brazil, with plans to open further offices in Argentina and central America.

As well as its international agenda, the firm has been ramping up its technological capabilities, notably through an artificial intelligence and process automation project with the Institute of Knowledge Engineering at the Autonomous University of Madrid to develop robot-based document management for corporate clients, the first system of its kind in Spain.

Highlights over the past year have included providing Spanish legal advice to Coca-Cola European Partners as part of the company’s €16.9bn listing on a number of global stock exchanges, and advising Spanish hospital operator Quironsalud on its sale to German healthcare provider Fresenius. “An outstanding firm,” praised one judge.
