(L-R) Hardwicke’s Jasmine Murphy, Amanda Illing, PJ Kirby QC, Catherine Piercy and Gemma Witherington with ALM chief content officer Molly Miller

Finalists: Brick Court Chambers; Matrix Chambers; Monckton Chambers; Outer Temple Chambers; Quadrant Chambers (highly commended); Serle Court; Wilberforce Chambers.

Hardwicke was crowned chambers of the year after successfully delivering on its growth strategy plan. By the end of the summer, billings were up 16% over the same period last year, while silks’ income is already 39% higher than this year’s budget. That has helped Hardwicke exceed its strategic target of having a certain percentage of its members earning above a set level.

As part of the organisation’s business plan to seek fresh opportunities and keep up to date with regulation, Hardwicke is implementing a chambers-wide GDPR programme to refine client databases (which it uses to identify market areas and individuals who are likely to garner the biggest return on investment).

Key account management and targeted business development has seen a 14% increase in work and a substantial uplift in higher value cases.

The chambers’ members have been involved in a number of flagship cases, and three of its QCs have made profile-raising appearances at the Supreme Court. “It’s all come together; a good submission,” said a judge.
