Ashurst City corporate partner to depart for White & Case

White & Case has hired Ashurst London corporate partner Dominic Ross, just weeks after fellow corporate partner James Wood left to join US firm Sidley Austin in London.

Ross, who has been a partner at Ashurst since 2015, specialises in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. He has broad experience advising both listed and private corporate clients on a wide variety of M&A and equity capital markets deals.

White & Case head of M&A John Reiss said: “Our strategic ambition is to build a truly market leading public M&A practice in London, in line with our 2020 growth strategy.

“The importance of London as a financial and legal centre, and of English law for cross-border M&A deals, continues despite Brexit, and Dominic’s arrival will further grow the service we provide to UK public companies across the spectrum of their corporate activities.”

Ross’ arrival date at White & Case is yet to be confirmed, but the news of his hire follows on from corporate partner Wood’s exit to Sidley earlier this month

Wood joined Sidley in London on 1 November after two years at Ashurst. He was previously a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and was posted to the magic circle firm’s Tokyo office between 2007 and 2011, spending more than two years as managing partner there.

Separately New York finance partner Scott Pierpont joined Chapman and Cutler last month, in a move which reunites him with the five-partner team that left Ashurst earlier this year following a restructuring of the Anglo-Australian firm’s US finance practice.

Ashurst said:  ”Dominic has been well supported as an associate and then in the last two years as a partner at Ashurst. Our London corporate team goes from strength to strength, advising on a roster of fantastic deals for both longstanding and new clients. We have performed exceptionally well and we will continue to do so throughout the remainder of the financial year.”
