Vodafone Global Enterprise took home the knowledge management innovation title for developing a business tool that allows staff to see quickly and clearly what products it is able to sell in what countries.

With more than 130 products for sale across the group and 208 potential territories to offer services in, finding the answer to that question was previously time consuming because it meant consulting with legal, tax, regulatory, billing and product departments. The tool – known as Canary – means employees can now check this information in just five clicks or less, a process that previously took around three days to complete.

An analyst from the group’s legal department was drafted to build a database that collated product information for all 208 territories, allowing users to see if a service can be offered in a certain territory, which Vodafone entities can provide the service contract, and if a local contract and invoice can be produced. Legal team members then volunteered to check all the information, ensuring Canary was accurate and complete. The company now plans to integrate Canary with other internal systems to improve data quality for its sales team.

“Enables faster delivery. Accessible by the business. Reduces lawyer time on low level tasks. A great example,” one judge summed up.
