Shoosmiths and Irwin Mitchell announce increased partner promotions rounds

Shoosmiths and Irwin Mitchell have announced their 2017 partner promotions, with both firms making up an increased number of lawyers on last year.

Shoosmiths has promoted six lawyers to partner this year, up from five in 2016. The firm’s new partners – who are spread across its real estate, restructuring and insolvency, commercial and recovery services practices – are all based outside of London.

Four of the new partners work out of the national firm’s Birmingham base, with one promoted in each of the firm’s Manchester and Northampton offices.

Shoosmiths chief executive Claire Rowe said: “Promotions serve as an opportunity for us to recognise the experience and commitment our people bring to the firm. Promotions at a senior level are earned by building relationships with our clients and taking on additional responsibilities, and both are integral to the firm’s success.”

Meanwhile, fellow national outfit Irwin Mitchell has added 15 lawyers to its partnership this year, up from the total of 13 made up last year.

Seven of the new partners are in the business legal services division, with six in the personal legal services division, and two in the firm’s IT business and debt recovery business, Ascent Performance Group.

Irwin Mitchell’s alternative business structure status allows it to promote non-lawyers to its partnership.

Irwin Mitchell group chief executive Andrew Tucker said: “Promotion to partner level is a huge achievement, which demonstrates the incredible hard work and dedication that each of these people has shown across their time at Irwin Mitchell. Each and every one of our new partners thoroughly deserves their promotion and I am proud to congratulate all of them on their success.”
