Eversheds Sutherland has made up 20 lawyers to its partnership, in the firm’s first promotions round since the merger of Eversheds and Sutherland Asbill & Brennan earlier this year.

The total of 20 promotions, which are spread across nine countries, is down on last year, when the firm made up 26 lawyers.

Eversheds’ merger with US firm Sutherland went live on 1 February this year. The new firm is structured as a company limited by guarantee, with no financial integration between the US and UK sides of the business, and as such these promotions do not include any legacy Sutherland lawyers.

The promotions include six women (30%), down from 11 (42%) last year. The bulk of the promotions (14) are in the firm’s company commercial practice group, with four in litigation and dispute management and two in real estate.

Of the 20 new partners, 10 are based in the UK, including just one in London – competition principal associate James Lindop – with four in Birmingham, two each in Manchester and Leeds, and one in Nottingham.

The other 10 are split across Austria, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Latvia and the United Arab Emirates.

Eversheds Sutherland managing partner and CEO-elect Lee Ranson said: “I am very pleased that we are able to reward the hard work, leadership and client commitment shown by colleagues across such a broad geographic spread – this speaks volumes about the strength in depth across the group.

“We continue to increase our overall proportion of female partners and that remains an ongoing aspiration.”
