Jones Day hires entire Freshfields Paris real estate team

Jones Day has hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s entire Paris real estate team.

The four-lawyer team is led by partner Erwan Le Douce-Bercot, who joins Jones Day as its head of real estate in France, having previously led Freshfields’ Paris real estate team.

He is joined at the firm by three associates: Solene Maulard, Flavia Poujade and Alix Pallier.

Le Douce-Bercot, Maulard and Poujade joined Freshfields in 2013 from French firm Gide Loyrette Nouel, while Pallier joined the firm in 2016.

Le Douce-Bercot focuses on property transactions, commercial leases and real estate litigation.

Sophie Hagege, Jones Day’s Paris head, said: “This is a very strategic and timely addition, and is further evidence of the commitment Jones Day is making to give our clients access to some of the most accomplished legal talent in the region.”

David Roberts, a leading London real estate partner at Jones Day, said: “Erwan and the new associates bring broad, multinational experience to our already very strong real estate practice in Paris.

“Their demonstrated ability to structure major transactions, negotiate lease agreements, deal with any real estate-related litigation, and advise clients in every area of real estate, will be a valuable resource for our clients in Paris’s competitive property market and across Europe.”

Last week, it emerged that Freshfields is set to hire a five-partner Ashurst private equity team in Paris, subject to a partner vote.

Earlier this week, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe hired a four-lawyer competition team from Clifford Chance in Paris. Local competition head Patrick Hubert joined the US firm alongside a counsel and two associates from his team.

Freshfields declined to comment.
