The spotlight is on transatlantic deals, cases and law firm strategy with the launch of the 2017 Transatlantic Legal Awards, hosted by Legal Week and The American Lawyer.

Submissions are now being accepted for the June awards, which recognise excellence in handling transatlantic matters across the key areas of corporate, finance and disputes, as well as highlighting law firm innovation, commitment to pro bono, outstanding transatlantic strategy and in-house leaders.

Last year’s winners included Latham & Watkins, which was named Transatlantic Law Firm of the Year, and Cooley chief executive Joe Conroy, who was named Transatlantic Law Firm Leader of the Year following the high profile launch of the firm’s London office, which generated revenue of nearly $50m (£40m) last year.

The 2017 winners will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on 8 June at One Whitehall Place in London.

The awards come at a time when transatlantic mergers are in the news, following the recent union between Eversheds and Atlanta-based Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, and merger talks between Norton Rose Fulbright and Chadbourne & Parke.

Thirteen practice awards will be handed out on the night, including M&A Team of the Year (Large and Midmarket), Private Equity Team of the Year, Finance Team of the Year and Arbitration Team of the Year. Individual achievement will be recognised in the Dealmaker of the Year, Disputes Lawyer of the Year and General Counsel of the Year categories.

The ceremony will culminate with three law firm awards: Transatlantic Law Firm Manager of the Year, Transatlantic Independent Law Firm of the Year and Transatlantic Law Firm of the Year.

The judging panel will be made up of senior ALM journalists, including Chris Johnson, chief global correspondent, business of law at The American Lawyer and Law.com; Georgina Stanley, editor of Legal Week; and Gina Passarella, executive editor of The American Lawyer.

The deadline for entries is 14 April.
