Longstanding Slaughter and May corporate partner Frances Murphy died last week after a long illness. In this video interview for the First 100 Years project, which charts the progress of women in law, Murphy discusses everything from her motivation for becoming a lawyer to her love of deals and the reality of life as a City lawyer.

As one of the most high profile female M&A partners of her generation, she also talks about the need to improve the number of women staying in law, asking: “How do you fix the system and make it work better for men and women who all want to have a real life, as well as a professional life?”
