Jonathan Watmough, managing partner, RPC: How do you get your legal team to really understand the business? How fundamental is that and what are the techniques that you go through in order to get your team really embedded in the business?
Robert Blok, group legal director, Virgin Management: One of the key things for me is that you need to understand what the purpose of your legal team is. People do that in different ways. I’ve heard of some companies which enter into service-level agreements (SLA) with the rest of the business in order to actually say this is what we do, this is what we don’t do and these are our delivery timetables. That wouldn’t work for the culture of the organisation I work in.
