Why did you become a lawyer?
During my year off I finally realised that, other than in relation to on-court tantrums, I was never going to become the next John McEnroe. I already had a place to study law at university and applying for articles was the natural – though unimaginative – next step.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
My wife. We became partners on the same day at my former firm. Her guidance, motivation and support helped me through that process and through life in general.

What’s your proudest professional moment?
Reviewing the client feedback taken up by Mayer Brown when I moved to the firm last year. I am lucky to have worked with some great clients without whom I would not be where I am today.

… and worst day on the job?
As an articled clerk, realising that my error in relation to an investment adjustment mechanism could result in a £25m hit for my client. Fortunately the lawyer on the other side was very understanding and the error was corrected.
