The phone-hacking trial of originally eight and finally seven defendants finally concluded yesterday (25 June) having begun on 28 October 2013. It ended with a verdict of guilty on count 1, conspiracy to intercept voicemails, against former News of the World (NoW) editor Andy Coulson.

The jury were unable to agree on two charges of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office against Coulson and former NoW royal editor Clive Goodman. The other five defendants – former Sun and NoW editor Rebekah Brooks, former NoW managing editor Stuart Kuttner, Rebekah Brooks’ husband Charlie Brooks and former PA Cheryl Carter, and Mark Hanna, former head of security at News International – we acquitted on all charges.
