The number of reported defamation cases in the UK fell last year, according to data compiled by Sweet & Maxwell. In the year to 31 May there were 71 defamation court cases, a 15% drop from the 84 during the same period the year before. Last year also marked a five-year-low in the number of defamation court cases brought against traditional media companies, with just 27 recorded.
