Holman Fenwick makes first aerospace hire in Continental Europe

Holman Fenwick Willan has made its first aerospace partner hire in Europe since launching the practice with an eight-partner team hire from legacy Barlow Lyde & Gilbert last year.

Field Fisher Waterhouse Brussels partner Pierre Fruehling is set to join the firm in March and will split his time between Holman Fenwick’s Paris and Brussels offices.

Fruehling will be the firm’s sole aerospace partner in Continental Europe, with the firm hoping to take advantage of the French aviation insurance market.
His practice covers litigation, competition, state aid and regulatory matters relating to the aviation sector, in addition to insurance.

Holman Fenwick aerospace head Giles Kavanagh said: “Pierre combines expertise in aviation liability as well as regulation and will enhance our offering to our insurance clients as well as airlines whose activities are subject to increasing scrutiny and intervention by Brussels.”

Holman Fenwick launched its aerospace practice in October last year with the hire of an eight-partner team from across Barlows’ London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sao Paulo and Dubai offices, going on to take over Barlow’s Sao Paulo office.

The team hire gifted the shipping and insurance firm around 100 new client including BAE Systems, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways and Emirates.

Holman Fenwick expanded significantly last year with a total of 25 lateral hires announced across 2010-11, in addition to a nine-strong promotions round.
