Olswang launches US secondment scheme

Olswang has begun a secondee programme with its new US ally Greenberg Traurig, as the City media leader moves to sell its transatlantic links to clients.

Olswang senior associate Stephen Reese is moving to Greenberg’s New York office for a four-month placement next month. He is the first secondee to move between the firms, with more expected in the future.

The move comes as Olswang has also embarked on a joint marketing exercise with Greenberg in the US, with a number of corporate partners next month travelling to sell to clients in cities such as Boston, Chicago and New York.

The firms have also drawn up plans to hold joint marketing efforts at Cannes property convention MIPIM in March and the International Bar Association conference in Chicago in September.

Olswang international strategy partner David Stewart said: “All of these initiatives are being pursued with reasonable vigour by both firms to help lawyers get to know each other and to get the two sides working together.”

The moves come as the two firms prepare to capitalise on their exclusive alliance, which was unveiled in July. Olswang and the Miami-based US national are currently looking at France and Germany with the aim of establishing formal referral links in continental Europe.

Since the alliance was announced, Olswang claims it has been working on a number of Greenberg referrals. In November it completed its first referral from the US firm, Nine.com’s $57m (£33m) takeover by Leisure & Gaming.
