Overview

As one of the Scotland's traditional 'big four' McGrigors is probably used to getting its own way north of the border - although the firm did lose a seven-lawyer team to Bond Pearce when the southwest upstart made its Scots debut. That raid robbed McGrigors of a chunk of the well-regarded energy team it hired from Aberdeen's Ledingham Chalmers.

Further south, the firm's City arm has also had a mixed time, with senior lawyers leaving for places including Cohen Milstein, SJ Berwin and the Bar, amongst others, while McGrigors keeps hiring in a bid to bulk up its London team.

"Seemingly not a happy ship," notes one observer, although this is given short shrift by another contributor: "I work there and the general atmosphere is content. Not sure where the previous poster got their information from."

Of those persistent rumours about merging with a certain UK giant, he adds: "FYI, [there is] no merger with Eversheds happening. Talks [have] completely broken down."

"McGrigors got my dog back from my rotten ex!" enthuses one contributor, although the Scots firm would probably rather focus on areas other than its respected canine litigation practice.

Seemingly not a happy ship, can somebody please find out if/when they are going to tie the knot with Eversheds?
