Ince was founded in 1870 as a maritime law firm, but has now expanded into other areas, ranging from energy to insurance.

In 2005 the firm moved from premises in the City of London to a new location across the road from the Tower of London.

Legal Week's 2008-09 UK top 50 rankings saw the firm rise to 39th place as firms with strong insurance practices bucked the downturn in the global economy. Turnover rose 23.5% to £79.4m, while profits increased by 12% to a new mark of £479,000.
