Beerbower, who has been a partner at Cravath for more than 25 years, completed his switch to the City yesterday (7 January). He has broad disputes experience including commercial litigation and arbitration as well as competition law matters.
He will continue to work on arbitrations while in London and will also support international transactional work from the London office as well as taking a role in the expansion of the disputes practice.
Clients of Beerbower during his time at the Wall Street leader include Deutsche Telekom, KLM, Unilever, Royal Dutch Shell and BAE Systems. His recent work includes representing Mexican beer exporter Extrade in an arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce and advising Cemex on its acquisition of Rinker Corporation.
Commenting on the move, Cravath presiding partner Evan Chesler said: "John will be an important addition to our London office. Having him there will enhance the services we provide to our clients based both inside and outside the US."
Beerbower will be the first full-time disputes partner based in Cravath's London office, which practises US law only with a focus on capital markets work. The office recently saw the departure of former City chief William 'Bud' Rogers, who returned to New York.
