London corporate insurance partner Mike Munro has been chosen to take on the practice head role after it emerged that Snedden was stepping down from the post and leaving the firm. In addition, Barlows has appointed London corporate partner Richard Pike to take up a new role as managing partner of the corporate group.
Snedden's departure comes after four years leading the practice. He initially joined Barlows in 1997 from Dundas & Wilson.
News of the exit comes after Barlows overhauled its core insurance and reinsurance practice, resulting in a number of partners leaving the firm.
Insurance partners Yvonne Geoffries and Katy-Marie Wilson are the latest to leave the firm's partnership, with their moves following the departures of fellow insurance partners Roger Doulton, Neil Beresford, Toby Rogers and legal director Elliott Bromley to Clyde & Co. Former insurance chief Colin Croly has also left the firm after 29 years as a partner. It is unclear where Geoffries, Wilson and Croly are going.
Barlows merged its insurance and reinsurance practices earlier this year, renaming the combined group as commercial risk and reinsurance practice.
