Clifford Chance (CC) has made up 35 new partners in this year's partnership round - the most announced by a UK firm so far this year - with 11 promotions coming in London.

The remainder of the promotions, announced by the City giant today (7 April), are spread across CC's global network, with the Frankfurt and Paris offices gaining four new partners apiece.

Paris and Dubai each receive three promotions, while Amsterdam, Milan and Singapore getting two new partners and Brussels, Madrid, Dusseldorf and Barcelona one apiece.

Finance gains the most promotions, with 10 getting the nod, three of whom are based in Dubai, while corporate receives nine new partners.

Capital markets gets six promotions, while the tax sees five lawyers made up. Real estate receives three promotions, while litigation and dispute resolution gets just two.

Only four of the promotions are women, including Emma Matebalavu in the City.

The total represents a slight dip on the 38 new partners that got the nod last year. Including the latest promotions, CC's global partnership will stand at 648 from 1 May.

Managing partner David Childs commented: "We are delighted to admit 35 lawyers into the partnership this year, who represent all practice areas within the firm and 12 of our worldwide offices. The wide spread of these appointments reflects our strength across practices and demonstrates our ability to deliver high-quality service to our clients on a local, regional and global level."

The news comes after magic circle rival Allen & Overy today unveiled its own round of partner promotions, with the City giant making up 28 worldwide, including eight in the UK. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, meanwhile, last month promoted 25 associates to partner.
