Latham & Watkins has promoted 30 lawyers to its partnership, with a fifth of the promotions in the US firm's City base. Six new partners have been made up in London - a significant increase on recent years which saw two new partners made up last year and one the year before.
The London office's haul sees it gain more partners than any Latham office bar New York, with seven new partners. San Diego gains four new partners, with Chicago and Hamburg winning three each. The remainder are split across Los Angeles, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Washington DC and Singapore.
The firm's corporate practice sees the vast majority of the new partners (13), with litigation and finance receiving seven and six promotions respectively. The firm's environment and tax teams gain two partners apiece.
All of the promotions take effect from the 1 January, 2009. Twenty-eight of the new partners have been promoted from Latham's associate ranks while two were counsel with the firm.
Robert Dell, Latham's chairman and managing partner, said: "These lawyers have diverse legal experience across a wide breadth of practice areas, and they also exhibit the collegiality and dedication to client service that are hallmarks of Latham.
"We are pleased to welcome them into the partnership and are confident they will continue to make significant contributions to the success of our firm and our clients."
In total, the number of associates promoted is marginally up on the last two years, which saw 29 elected last year and 26 in 2006.
Wall Street firm Cravath Swaine & Moore also announced its promotions this week with three associates to join the partner ranks in January, two in corporate and one in tax.
