Olswang hires 11-strong Freshfields Berlin team

Olswang has scored a major coup with the hire of an 11-lawyer team from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Berlin.

The group, which is made up of partners Christian Schede and Martin Wiemann and nine associates, broadly covers corporate real estate, with a focus on M&A and finance. Joint venture and M&A specialist Peter Schorling will be made up to partner on joining Olswang, while Schede will become head of the firm's real estate practice in Germany.

The hires marks a significant boost for the UK top 50 firm's German operation, which in March last year signed up an eight-lawyer intellectual property team from Linklaters.

Firm managing partner David Stewart told Legal Week: "The great benefit to Olswang from these lawyers is the quality and experience that they will bring - their arrival means our offering in Berlin is strong and sizeable."

Berlin managing partner Stefan Lutje commented: "When we joined form Linklaters we had a joint vision to add these practices to make us competitive in the local market - this move helps us toward that."

The hires brings the German office numbers up to 24 - almost tripling the office size. Olswang has primarily focused on real estate media and projects since its opening in January 2007.
