London misses out in Milbank partner promotions

Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy has announced that is making up four new partners to its global partnership.

Three of the promotions have been made outside of the US, with two in the firm's German offices in Frankfurt and Munich.

Corporate lawyers Martin Erhardt (Munich) and Peter Memminger (Frankfurt) have been handed places in the firm's partnership.

In Singapore, projects finance lawyer James Murray has been made up, while New York-based securities lawyer Paul Denaro has also been promoted.

This year is the second year in a row that Milbank has made no partner promotions in the City. In 2006 two London lawyers were made up to partner level.

Last year the firm promoted 11 lawyers to the partnership across its Los Angeles, New York and Washington DC offices. The firm's headquarters in New York received the lion's share of promotions with five.

Internationally, Frankfurt, Munich and Singapore all received one promotion each.

Milbank is one of the first US firms to unveil its partnership promotions this year, with so far only Kirkland & Ellis announcing its 2008 promotions.

Kirkland promoted 67 of its lawyers to partner earlier this month, with five of the US firm's City associates being made up.
