Nabarro is the latest firm to feel the effects of the downturn with the announcement that it is in consultation with 13 fee earners and nine business support staff over possible redundancies.

The firm said that if the cuts are confirmed after the month-long consultation, which begins today (17 November), they will be made across a number of practice areas in the Sheffield and London offices of the firm.

Managing partner Nicole Paradise (pictured) commented: "This is not something we like doing, but, given the ongoing economic uncertainty, we have reached the point where we need to take this step."

The top 25 firm is one of a number of UK firms to make cutbacks as a result of the worsening economy.

Last week (13 November) Eversheds launched its second redundancy consultation, which is likely to affect 45 transactional fee earners.

The consultation focuses on the firm's M&A, finance and insurance teams. This is in addition to an ongoing consultation in the firm's real estate group, which was launched earlier this year (4 September).

The firm has extended the deadline in a move that is set to potentially affect 33 fee earners and a number of support staff.

Meanwhile, Hammonds has confirmed that around 7% of its fee earners could face the axe as part of a redundancy consultation launched earlier this month.

The national firm's consultation, revealed by Legal Week (6 November), could see up to 42 fee earners and 53 support staff losing their jobs.

Most of the job losses, which do not include any partners, are expected to come in the firm's corporate and real estate groups.
