Herbert Smith has become the latest major UK firm to unveil its partner promotions, with the top 10 City outfit making up a bumper 18 new partners - double the number promoted last year. Eight are promoted in the firm's City hub, including three in litigation and arbitration, two in finance and one apiece in corporate, real estate and employment.
The firm's Paris office gains four new partners, while Tokyo and Hong Kong each receive two new partners. Beijing and Brussels receive one new partner apiece, with all the promotions taking effect from 1 April.
The promotions represent a major increase on last year's nine promotions and bring the firm's total partnership to 249.
Herbert Smith senior partner David Gold commented: "This year's promotions will support two of our key strategic priorities - namely, strengthening our international capability and further developing the distinctive breadth and balance of our practice."
The firm becomes just the second top 10 UK firm to announce its annual promotions, with magic circle giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer last week making up 25 new partners, including 10 in the City. Chasing pack rival CMS Cameron McKenna, meanwhile, promoted 11 new partners.
