Eagle-eyed readers and web spods may have noticed a new addition to legalweek.com’s main navigation bar. The extra link is for law.com, the umbrella website of American Lawyer Media (ALM), which today (17 August) formally becomes part of Legal Week’s owner, Incisive Media.
For Legal Week, it’s a particularly important deal since it brings by far the largest media player in the world’s largest legal market into Incisive.
For those not familiar with ALM, the 1,000-strong group boasts 33 legal titles aside from law.com, including highly respected brands like American Lawyer, Corporate Counsel and The National Law Journal. The group, one of the best known business publishing groups in America, built its reputation on the back of high investment journalism that is particularly renowned for in-depth analysis.
With such a substantial acquisition, there are many details still to be worked out but we are looking to bring some of ALM’s leading titles and journalism to a new audience in Europe. That will see Legal Week collaborate in the very near future with our US colleagues on research and also carry each other’s copy on a regular basis. Readers will start to notice more differences in Legal Week as we begin to draw on the work of our new colleagues and share editorial ideas.
Likewise, we are also pleased to be working alongside American Lawyer’s European correspondent, Richard Lloyd. Richard, who will be moving over to Legal Week’s offices in a couple of weeks, will already be known to many senior readers from his time as deputy editor of Legal Business. But I’d better sign off now before I start gushing.
