Jeremy Hand, the vice chairman of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, will call for greater transparency in the sector during his keynote speech at the Legal Week Private Equity Forum.

Hand, managing partner of Lyceum Capital, which is targeting investment opportunities in the legal market, is set to respond to Sir David Walker’s review of disclosure and transparency in private equity at the forum, which will be held at the Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel on Thursday, 24 April.

The day-long event will be chaired by Mark Kenderdine-Davies, general counsel at CDC Group, and Claire Wilkinson (pictured), general counsel of Omega Fund Management.

The conference will provide a forum for corporate counsel working in private equity and venture capital to debate issues thrown up by the controversy surrounding transparency, the industry’s tax treatment and the impact of the credit crunch.

Senior private practice lawyers in attendance will include Macfarlanes’ incoming senior partner, Charles Martin, and Mike Francies, Weil Gotshal & Manges’ London office head.

Other topics to come under the microscope include the image problem of private equity taking public companies private, the new Companies Act and managing litigation.

Senior corporate counsel speaking at the conference will include Sue Woodman, partnership counsel at Alchemy Partners, David Dench, director of group legal services at 3i, and Barry Lawson, in-house counsel at Bridgepoint.
