Two candidates have emerged as front-runners in the upcoming Lovells managing partner election, as the pre-nomination period comes to an end.

The firm’s regional managing partner for continental Europe, Harald Seisler (pictured), is to stand against against current managing partner David Harris.

Harris’ term comes to an end in April next year, with the current election process culminating in a secret ballot at the partnership conference on 14 November.

The winner of the election will take up the role from 1 May next year for a four-year term. Senior partner John Young is overseeing the process.

Seisler also stood in the 2004 election against Harris, along with the then competition head John Pheasant and corporate head Andrew Skipper.

A statement from Lovells said that the formal nomination process is now underway and closes on 25 September, which could still throw up new potential candidates for the top job.

One partner within the firm told Legal Week: “David has done a fantastic job of steering the firm through a difficult period and taking it forward — now he will want to continue that work and concentrate on profitability.”

Young was reappointed as senior partner last year in an uncontested election, extending his term until 2012.
