Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed a new human resources (HR) director, taking on Kevin Hogarth from Capital One Bank Europe.
Hogarth, who took up his new role at the beginning of the month, will be responsible for the operational management of the magic circle law firm’s global HR function. He will also head up HR for Freshfields’ City headquarters.
Prior to joining Freshfields, Hogarth, who will report to the firm’s global HR partner Caroline Stroud, held the position of managing vice president of HR at Capital One, where he headed the European HR function and was accountable for the development and implementation of the HR strategy.
Before joining the bank in 2001, he worked for Ernst & Young as national resourcing director as well as holding various HR positions with Abbey National, National and Provincial Building Society and The Boots Company.
The hire is the latest boost to Freshfields’ HR function after the firm appointed employment partner Stroud to the newly-created position of HR partner earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Tim Cole, who previously headed up Freshfields’ HR operation, has taken on a more partner-focused role, and will assist in work planning and appraisal processes.
Stroud said: “Attracting and retaining the best people is fundamental to the success of our business. Kevin will be able to contribute in a very real way by ensuring that our global HR strategy, policies and practices support the firm’s position as an employer of choice in each of the markets in which we operate, both for lawyers and business services staff.”
