Baker & McKenzie has received a significant boost for its Russian practice with the addition of a 22-lawyer team.

The team, which includes three partners, comes from the legal department of global accountancy giant PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Real estate lawyers Konstantine Kouzine and Maxim Kuznechenkov and corporate lawyer Igor Makarov all join the firm as partners, bringing with them a team of 19 other fee earners.

Rafael Jimenez-Gusi, executive committee liaison for the CIS, commented: "All three new partners will assume leading practice development roles that will contribute significantly to the reputation and competitiveness of both our real estate and transactional capabilities in this very important market."

The Russian offices of Bakers offer a full service of practices split between offices in Moscow and St Petersburg. The offices have a total of 23 partners with more than 90 associates.

Bakers launched in Russia in 1989 with the opening of the Moscow office. Carol Patterson is the current managing partner with Maxim Kalinin heading up the St Petersburg office, which opened in 1992.

Earlier this week (2 July), the firm made up six new partners in London, taking partner numbers in the London office up to 84.
