Rapid growth and a series of high profile instructions from some of the world's leading insurers and investment banks mean that an excellent opportunity has arisen for an associate to join our Insurance Group in London.

Headed by Philip Jarvis, the team has enjoyed a period of sustained growth over the last five years and is now regularly instructed on major transactions by some of the biggest players in the market, including Swiss Re, RSA, Hiscox, AEGON, AIG, Fortis and Munich Re as well as all the leading investment banks.

The team's work is varied and integrated with Allen & Overy's market-leading finance, capital markets, derivatives and M&A practices. In the last 12 months, a typical week has seen associates working on a diverse range of matters, including:
working with Swiss Re on a series of innovative structured reinsurance/capital markets transactions with Friends Provident, Zurich Life Assurance, Co-operative Insurance Society and Norwich Union worth in aggregate value in excess of £7.5 billion;
advising Munich Re on the development of a new insurance product enabling Munich Re to participate directly in the syndicated loan marked; and
assisting corporates and insurers in implementing pension scheme buyouts (http://tinyurl.co.uk/obsv).
As expected of a global firm such as Allen & Overy we also help our insurance client base with their international expansion plans and at any one time are busy with a number of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures (http://tinyurl.com/6qz7u3) and capital raisings (http://tinyurl.com/69k9om). We also occupy a unique space in the market in helping our corporate client base with their needs as buyers of insurance.

Our work is demanding and at the core of the firm's key transactional business. The team is a close-knit one and we place great importance on training and development and partner support.

In addition to Philip Jarvis' personal experience as an insurance underwriter the group includes two senior insurance experts both of whom have worked extensively in the industry before moving to private practice and are fundamental to ensuring that our lawyers have access to the best commercial training on offer

We are looking for high quality qualified associates with strong insurance experience to work in a friendly, dynamic environment where the quality of work is second-to-none.

You will have outstanding academic credentials with sound practical experience, good business judgement and strong interpersonal skills.
