Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has bolstered its project finance practice with the hire of Bevan Brittan’s head of banking, Philippa Chadwick.

Chadwick joined the City firm as a partner last week (7 April) with her practice covering project finance, real estate finance and public-private partnership (PPP) work.

She has previously advised on transactions including the Athens ring road project and power and telecom projects in Africa. At BLP she will focus on cross-border and PPP work in the waste sector.

The hire follows a number of partner losses from BLP’s projects practice over the last 18 months. These include the November departure of Jon Nash, Sohail Barkatali and Agnieszka Klich to the London arm of Chadbourne & Parke, international projects head Jonathan Simpson’s move to Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker at the start of 2007 and Thomas Wexler’s departure to Fasken Martineau Stringer Saul in London.

BLP managing partner Neville Eisenberg (pictured) told Legal Week: “Project finance has always been an important group in the firm. We will look at opportunities to grow the practice when they come up and expanding will continue to be something that we are interested in doing.”

BLP finance head Simon Allan added: “Bringing in new partners who are able to focus on high-value work that matches with the existing team’s strengths continues to be a priority for us. Philippa will be a great asset to the team and her experience fits well with our existing practice.”

Bevan Brittan has appointed partner Hugo Coetzee to lead its banking practice in Chadwick’s place.
