The former chair of White & Case, Duane Wall, is to reprise his role as the head of the firm’s bank advisory practice following the departure of two key partners to Arnold & Porter.

Wall, who headed up the firm for more than seven years, stepped down last October. He will now take up the role he held before becoming chair.

The news follows the departure of financial services regulatory partner and former head, Kevin Barnard, and fellow partner Alan Avery to rival Arnold & Porter.

Barnard will become co-head of the firm’s financial services practice alongside the New York-based Patrick Doyle.

Wall commented: “Naturally, we regret Kevin and Alan have left us - they are excellent lawyers and well-liked colleagues, and we wish them both all the best in their new roles.”

Arnold & Porter chair Thomas Milch said: " Combining Kevin and Alan’s in-depth regulatory experience, particularly with foreign banks, with the strength of our existing top-ranked financial services regulatory group, will provide our global banking clients with deep expertise on a broad range of issues in the US."

The appointments comes at a time of increased activity for Arnold & Porter in the US and the City. Earlier this month the firm launched a London employment practice with the hire of partner Henry Clinton-Davis from US rival Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. In January the firm recruited Paula Levitan, who had previously served as vice president and associate general counsel of retail chain Gap, to its corporate practice.
