High-profile banking partner Jonathan Nabarro has left Weil Gotshal & Manges after little more than two years with the New York firm, it has emerged.

Weil confirmed that Nabarro, who was co-head of the firm's Paris banking practice, left the firm on 31 March. His next move is as yet unconfirmed.

It will be the third move in around four years for Nabarro, who focuses on advising European and US banks, mezzanine lenders and private equity houses on financing leveraged buy-outs, public-to-private transactions, take-over bids and restructurings.

Weil hired him in December 2005 as a partner and prior to that he spent just under two years as Allen & Overy’s Paris leveraged finance head after joining the magic circle firm in early 2004 from Ashurst where he spent eight years.

Commenting on his departure, Weil Gotshal Paris head Claude Serra said: “It was a mutual decision to put an end to the relationship. He left on amicable terms.”

The firm is not currently looking to replace Nabarro, with Emmanuel Ringeval now in sole charge of the local banking practice.

Nabarro is believed to have been in talks with a number of US firms in Paris – including Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe – but it is believe that nothing has been finalised.

The news comes as it emerges that Orrick Paris head Stuart McAlpine has handed over the leadership of the office to structured finance partner Pascal Agboyibor. The move follows McAlpine’s appointment as managing partner for Europe earlier this year.

At the same time, real estate partner Bruno Richard has taken over as Paris administrative partner from Catherine Saint Geniest. The Orrick Paris office now has around 100 lawyers.
