Dechert has moved to strengthen its New York office with the addition of senior funds specialist Kevin Scanlan, it was announced today (25 March).

Scanlan joins the firm’s Manhattan arm as a partner from West Coast giant Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was also a partner. His practice focuses on advising private equity groups and hedge funds on international and private investment fund formation and structuring.

The addition of Scanlan means Dechert’s global financial services group now has around 150 lawyers focusing on private equity and hedge fund work.

Commenting on the appointment, financial services global co-chair Peter Astleford – who is based in London – said: “Kevin joining us in New York reinforces Dechert’s pre-eminence in the private funds sector on both sides of the Atlantic.”

New York private hedge fund co-chief George Mazin added: “With his broad private funds experience, Kevin will significantly expand our capabilities and enable us to create the right fund to meet our clients needs.”

Scanlan told Legal Week: “I am excited by the opportunity to join Dechert’s private equity funds group and to take advantage of one of the leading private investment fund platforms in the industry.”
