Dewey & LeBoeuf has appointed new practice stream leaders in the wake of its merger, with London picking up just two management positions.

The firm, which ditched the London managing partner role less than a month after its merger went live on 1 October, has appointed 13 partners across the firm to lead its eight core practice groups.

Excluding the two London partners, the remaining appointments are all in the firm’s US homeland with the majority (eight) in New York.

The appointments, made by the firm’s combined executive committee in December, come after the firm announced it would be managed by practice group rather than by office. The controversial decision resulted in legacy City heads Peter Sharp (LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae) and Fred Gander (Dewey Ballantine) returning to full-time practice, although both also won places on the firm-wide executive committee.

The practice stream appointments mean the corporate group will now be headed by London-based Joseph Ferraro and New York partner Richard Shutran, while ex-Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Paul Watchman is co-heading the environmental practice alongside Hartford partner James Thompson.
