The head of enforcement at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in Washington is set to return to private practice as a partner at McDermott Will & Emery.

Gregory Mocek will join McDermott’s Washington DC office as a partner in the energy and derivatives practice group in September.

In 2002, Mocek was named director of enforcement at the CFTC and was responsible for managing the government agency’s investigations and litigation throughout the US.

Mocek joined the CFTC in 1998 and is one of the longest-serving enforcement directors in CFTC history. Prior to his current position, Mocek held several titles at the CFTC, including special counsel to chairman James Newsome and senior trial attorney.

Doron Ezickson, head of McDermott's London office and co-chair of the firm’s energy group said: “The addition of a lawyer of Gregory’s stature, experience and capability with international regulators brings a unique edge to the energy derivatives markets practice group, both in London and globally.”

McDermott chairman Harvey Freishtat added: “Gregory's business insight and deep experience working on investigations and regulatory matters with federal, state and international government agencies will be a tremendous asset to our broad range of US and international clients."

Earlier this year McDermott bought in John Cogan as its new global head of projects from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
