National firm Beachcroft and West End outfit Howard Kennedy have both bulked up their property litigation practices with partner hires.

Lesley Hughes joined Beachcroft as a partner in its real estate litigation group earlier this month (3 March) from Walker Morris, where she was an associate.

Hughes, who joined the firm’s northern real estate team and will split her time between the Manchester and Leeds offices, will work alongside recently-appointed national property head Virginia Clegg. Hughes focuses on commercial property litigation, including development issues and enforcement.

Clegg commented: “Our national, high-profile client base and quality of work continues to attract the highest calibre staff. We look forward to welcoming Lesley into our northern real estate team, which has a cross-Pennine offering that ensures our clients benefit from a combination of the most appropriately experienced people and local market knowledge.”

Meanwhile, Lynn Smith has joined Howard Kennedy as a partner in its litigation team. She joins from US firm Dechert, where she was an associate. Her practice encompasses all aspects of property litigation, including rent review arbitrations and leasehold enfranchisement.

The appointments come with a spate of litigation widely predicted in the property market as a result of the credit crunch.

Meanwhile, regional firm Ashfords has expanded its corporate practice after bagging partner David Heard from Reed Smith. Heard, who joined the firm’s Plymouth office on March 17 specialises in Mifid and paymemt protection insurance.
