Beachcroft is to outsource all its front-office functions in Bristol to services provider Intelligent Office UK, as the national firm prepares to transfer to new office space in the southwest city next year.

The move will see five staff, including those manning the firm’s reception and meeting rooms, transferred to Intelligent Office, with two further staff members set to join the team onsite.

Intelligent Office, which specialises in office services for the legal sector, already has outsourcing agreements with national firms Clarke Willmott and HBJ Gateley Wareing, as well as White & Case and Wiggin.

Last month the company signed an outsourcing agreement with Farrers to take on the City firm’s 23-strong back-office staff.

Beachcroft Bristol senior partner Mike Bothamley commented: “As part of our strategic planning we saw [the deal] as one means of ensuring that our client experience was of the highest quality.”

A handful of major UK firms, including City giant Allen & Overy, already outsource some back-office functions to India, although the tactic is relatively rare.

The news comes after a period of restructuring at Beachcroft, when the 860-lawyer firm made nine redundancies across its London and Birmingham offices in a bid to drive up its profitability, which continues to lag that of national rivals including Eversheds and Pinsent Masons.

Last year Beachcroft broke the £100m turnover barrier for the first time, with fee income up to £112m for 2006-07. Profits per partner stood at £320,000 for the last financial year.
