Trowers advised a consortium on the development, which is part of a Government scheme to regenerate the most deprived areas of the country.
The consortium of Whitefriars Housing Group, Coventry City Council and Coventry New Deal for Communities/Moat Housing Community Trust exchanged contracts with the developers last month after years of negotiations.
Real estate partner Sara Bailey led the team for Trowers with construction partner Katie Saunders advising on construction matters.
Coventry City Council also took additional advice from Mills & Reeve managing partner Guy Hinchley.
HBJ Gateley acted for the consortium of private developers comprising Bovis Homes Group, Keepmoat and Persimmon. Property partner Callum Nuttall is leading the HBJ Gateley team, which was instructed in late 2005.
Building on the development is expected to start in around 18 months with the houses to be built over 12 years in northeast
Bailey told Legal Week: “This is genuinely taking an area where people do not want to live and turning it into a proper mixed community — you feel like you have achieved something.”
Nuttall added: “We have exchanged all the documents which allow everything to go ahead. There will now be a big compulsory purchase order, followed by years of building.”
